This policy explains how Coastlight Skylights Brighton & Hove uses personal information collected through this website, by phone, by email and by WhatsApp. We try to keep it short and plain. It applies UK data protection law, which means the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Who we are
Coastlight Skylights Brighton & Hove is a skylight and rooflight installer working across Brighton & Hove and the surrounding area. We are the controller of the personal information described here, which means we decide why and how it is used. We do not have public premises or a published postal address. You can reach us by email at info@coastlightskylightsbrightonandhove.co.uk or by phone on 01273 282313.
What we collect
We collect only what we need to answer you and to plan a survey or a job.
- Enquiry form details: the name, email address, phone number, property address or postcode and the message you type into the form. The form is supplied by our CRM form provider, which collects the information on our behalf.
- WhatsApp messages: if you choose to message us on WhatsApp, we see your phone number, your profile name and whatever you send, including any photos.
- Phone and email: your number or address, the content of the conversation and any photos or plans you send.
- Job records: notes from the survey, the access plan, the written quote and later correspondence about the work.
Please do not send us anything you would not want us to hold, such as bank details by email or WhatsApp. We do not ask for special category information such as health details.
Why we use it, and our lawful bases
- To reply to your enquiry, arrange a survey and prepare a quote. The lawful basis is taking steps at your request before entering into a contract.
- To carry out and manage a job you have agreed to. The lawful basis is performing that contract.
- To keep records, handle complaints and run a sensible business, including keeping our systems secure. The lawful basis is our legitimate interests, which we balance against your rights and expectations.
- To meet legal duties, such as keeping business and tax records. The lawful basis is legal obligation.
We do not sell your information. We do not use it for automated decisions that have legal effects on you.
How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and any job, and for the periods the law requires for business records. When it is no longer needed, we delete it or anonymise it.
Who we share it with
- Our CRM form provider, which acts as a processor. It stores and passes on form enquiries under our instructions.
- WhatsApp and Meta, when you choose to message us. They run that service under their own privacy policy and we do not control it.
- Our IT providers, such as email and cloud storage suppliers, who handle information only to provide those services to us.
- Professional advisers, regulators or the authorities, where the law requires or allows it. If a job needs Building Control notification, we share the details needed for that.
Some of these providers may process information outside the UK. Where they do, we expect them to use a lawful transfer safeguard.
Maps on this website
The maps on this site use tiles served by OpenStreetMap. When a map loads, your browser requests those tiles, so OpenStreetMap receives your IP address and standard browser information. We do not send them anything else. See the cookie policy and OpenStreetMap's own privacy policy for more.
Your rights
Under data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct anything that is wrong or incomplete;
- ask us to delete your information, where the law gives you that right;
- ask us to restrict how we use it, or object to use based on our legitimate interests;
- ask for the information you gave us in a portable format, where this applies.
To use any of these rights, email or phone us. We may need to check who you are first. We will respond within the time the law allows.
Complaints to the ICO
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page if what we do with personal information changes. The version on this page is the current one.
